The goal in a faux surround-sound system is to get a credible sense of surround sound, not a replica of a 5.1-channel system. You can play with the positioning of the sub to get more bass (the closer to the wall, the more oomph), in addition to cranking up the volume using the dial on the back of the cabinet. Little is required in the way of setup since it’s a one-box speaker system–part of the EZ setup concept. The manual states that the dial shouldn’t be used with the SurroundWorks speaker system, which automatically selects the proper playback mode. Those who don’t read manuals may try to flip through the settings: Mute, Surround, Dialogue and Stereo and find little satisfaction. According to the manual, it’s there for use with systems other than the AVS600. One confusing feature is the mode switch on top of the main speaker. The owner’s manual uses illustrations to spell out the no-brainer connection process. One cable connects the speaker to the sub and another runs from the sub’s amps to the DVD module. SurroundWorks satisfies that crowd on both counts. The AM/FM tuner stores 40 AM/FM presets.Ĭonsumers who don’t have space for surround speakers generally don’t have tolerance for messy wires or complicated setup. In addition to Dolby Digital and DTS decoding, the DVD player spins DVD Audio (but no SACD) and MP3 files on CD. Mounting screws are also included if you want to hang the speaker above or beneath a wall-mounted flat-panel TV. At 7 inches deep and just 4.5 inches high, the speaker module can fit beneath the screen of a plasma or LCD TV that’s mounted on a stand. The bundle is space efficient, measuring approximately 15 (w) x 4.5 (h) x 7 (w) inches for the speaker, 10 x 11 x 12.5 inches for the subwoofer and 17 x 2.6 x 13.5 inches for the DVD/tuner. The subwoofer connects to the DVD control module which also packs an AM/FM tuner.Īdditional A/V inputs include one component, three S-Video and two composite video jacks, one coaxial and one digital audio jack, and a set of standard front-panel A/V jacks for a game player or camcorder. The speaker box connects via a single cable to the subwoofer which houses all the amplifiers for the ensemble: the 75-watt bass amp and 50-watt amps for each front channel. SurroundWorks features an unusually styled center speaker with concave moldings for the front three speakers: one on either side 2.78-inch full-range left and right speakers flanking a 2.78-inch center speaker. Max not working? Why the HBO Max successor’s launch has been wonky subscribersīest Sonos deals: Save $200 on speakers, soundbars and more I took advantage of their 45 day trial policy, set them up at home, and now I've got some truly high-end sounding speakers for bargain basement money.Spotify Premium adds 200,000 free audiobooks for U.S. Unfortunately, the setup at the CSW store I went to didn't do these speakers justice: they had them mounted to the wall, and I really think these speakers should be on stands to sound their best. I'd highly recommend these speakers to anyone in the market for small, satellite-type speakers. Because of their small size, I can have them about 8' from the front wall of my living room (which is about 12' wide by 24' deep) and they completely fill the room with sound. Probably the highest praise I can give the Newtons is that I'm now selling off my surround equipment. No preamp, no EQ, no $200 interconnects, and I've got what I'm pretty sure is a VERY accurate reproduction of what was actually recorded. The encouraging thing is, the simpler the set up, the more these speakers shine! Right now I've got a line out from my DVD player to the Newton P500 sub crossover (which BTW is another fantastic unit), high-pass out to a Denon amp, and some decent speaker wire to MC200's. I've had the speakers for a little over a month now, and I've set them up all sorts of different ways. Where to start? I've finally found a pair of affordable speakers that let you hear what you're supposed to hear: everything that's on the CD!! No details lost, no "warmth" added.

In October, the UN condemned the Iranian regime for carrying out executions at an “ alarming rate”. Hossein Ali Dil Baluch was secretly executed for drug-related charges in Birjand Central Prison without his family’s knowledge. The Iranian government has not responded to a request asking it to confirm the numbers of executions it has carried out since 7 October and it does not publish official statistics on how many people are put to death in the country. The UN also condemned Zohrevand’s execution, saying that “available information indicates that his trial lacked the basic requirements for due process under international human rights law” and that it was “troubled” by reports that Zohrevand’s parents were arrested following his execution. Iran has also executed 22-year-old Milad Zohrevand, the eighth protester linked to the Women, Life, Freedom movement to face the death penalty for participating in the nationwide anti-regime protests that erupted across Iran last year following the death of Mahsa Amini, a Kurdish woman who died while in police custody after allegedly being arrested for breaching Iran’s strict dress code. IHR claims that Azari was executed for murder at Sabzevar prison after giving a “forced confession”, and that state media falsely gave his age as 18 when reporting his death. Those who have been put to death in the last two months include a child, 17-year-old Hamidreza Azari, whose death was labelled “deplorable” by the UN last week. “Since the start of the war, there has been little international focus on the human rights situation in Iran, and there has been no substantial response to the significant increase in executions,” said Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, the director of IHR, who added that his organisation has recorded double the number of executions in October and November compared with August and September. Human rights activists and the families of those put to death have accused the regime of using the world’s preoccupation with war in Gaza as a cover to exact revenge on dissidents and put people to death without due judicial process. A third group, Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRA), confirmed that there has been a significant increase in executions since the 7 October attacks, stating that on Wednesday last week, the regime executed seven people within a 24-hour period. I leave the Tone Mapping checked but I uncheck the Color Denoise option to speed up the opening/processing of the raw file and I end up with a nice starting point. I’m immediately presented with a small version of my image with a few options. I can simply right-click on the image and select Show in Finder, then drag and drop that raw file on to Aurora HDR 2018. But after spending some time with Aurora HDR 2018 I have a new option that can save me time. Depending on the image I may be able to do my adjustments right within Photo Raw. I start my typical workflow by doing my culling in ON1 Photo Raw. As many of you have heard me say- raw is blah! Typically raw files need sharpening/detail work, contrast, saturation and in many cases bringing out shadow and highlight detail. Whether a landscape, architecture or a portrait, raw files need some optimization. A New and Useful Option for Single Image Workflowĭuring my usual workflow, once I’ve made my selections of best images from a shoot, I go to my top picks and start processing them. Naturally everyone has different needs so keep that in mind when deciding and you can always download the trial first and see how it works for you. In my opinion it’s hard to go wrong for $89/€89 ($49/€49 for existing users.) If you use multiple exposure HDR then you’ll get even more utility out of it. Another bonus is that it processes Fuji raw X-Trans files quite nicely. The obvious question: Is it worth the money? The short answer is yes, but I answer this question with another question: Will it save me time often enough to spend the money? If you read the rest of my review you’ll see I look at this in terms of using it for single image processing and the answer is yes. And now Windows users can enjoy and make use of it too! **It processes Fuji X-Trans RAW files nicely too** Bottom Line First This all new Aurora HDR 2018 is available to order for BOTH Mac and Windows. Use discount code WOLFSON for an additional $10/€10 off. In fact I’ve only been using it for single exposures and so far really liking the results. Aha! not the way most people use it… Guess what? This program has some really awesome features for many tasks that are not the usual HDR uses. Why do I say my review has a “twist”? Because I’m not a fan of HDR, at least not the way most people use it. MacPhun sent me Aurora HDR 2018 a little early to try out so I could tell you about it. This is a short review of Aurora HDR 2018, with a twist. I used the EVF and Velvia film simulation to aid in pre-capture visualization. I shot this on the north coast of France in open sun so there is a lot of contrast and dynamic range which Aurora HDR 2018 handles quite well just by applying some tone mapping while it opens the raw file. You Don’t Have to Like HDR to Like Aurora HDR 2018īefore (left) and After (right) tone mapping and applying my simple preset. "two points abaft the beam, starboard side" would describe "an object lying 22.5 degrees toward the rear of the ship, as measured clockwise from a perpendicular line from the right side, center, of the ship, toward the horizon". abaft the beam Farther aft than the beam a relative bearing of greater than 90 degrees from the bow e.g. abaft Toward the stern, relative to some object (e.g. It is used to heave to or to assist with tacking. In a fore-and-aft-rigged vessel, a headsail is backed either by hauling it across with the weather sheet or by tacking without releasing the sheet. This is a dangerous situation that risks serious damage. A sudden shift in the wind can also cause a square-rigged vessel to be unintentionally "caught aback" with all sails aback. On a square-rigged ship, any of the square sails can be braced round to be aback, the purpose of which may be to reduce speed (such as when a ship-of-the-line is keeping station with others), to heave to, or to assist moving the ship's head through the eye of the wind when tacking. aback (of a sail) Filled by the wind on the opposite side to the one normally used to move the vessel forward. terms starting with the letters M to Z are at Glossary of nautical terms (M–Z).Ī AAW An acronym for anti-aircraft warfare.terms starting with the letters A to L are at Glossary of nautical terms (A–L).This glossary is split into two articles: Terms used in other fields associated with bodies of water can be found at Glossary of fishery terms, Glossary of underwater diving terminology, Glossary of rowing terms, and Glossary of meteorology. The end result is a robot that is much better able to work with humans within the dynamic environment offered by most order fulfillment operations. In a warehouse and distribution center environment, these sophisticated technologies are integrated with the warehouse’s control systems, which allow AMRs increased flexibility to create their own routes between locations within a warehouse or facility. Autonomous mobile robots find the most efficient route to achieve each task, and are designed to work collaboratively with operators such as picking and sortation operations, whereas AGVs typically do not. The greatest of these differences is flexibility: AGVs must follow much more rigid, preset routes than AMRs. Though similar in many ways to automated guided vehicles (AGVs), AMRs differ in a number of important ways. AMRs have an array of sophisticated sensors that enable them to understand and interpret their environment, which helps them to perform their task in the most efficient manner and path possible, navigating around fixed obstructions (building, racks, work stations, etc.) and variable obstructions (such as people, lift trucks, and debris).
